A full house, creative banners and a great game to look forward to …unfortunately Mavericks did not arrive to the game with the zest that they had promised. A scrappy match and one that indicated there was going to be plenty of basic skills to keep the coaches busy in the quiet period leading through Christmas.
11-12 down in the first quarter; the mid courts were battling hard and Paula Gant once finding the consistent drop back of Natasha Hampshire was able to compete in the latter part of the first quarter creating some turnovers. Siddall and McFarlane worked tirelessly turning over any loose balls but the shooters found their range and in the 2 nd quarter Loughborough moved easily ahead through tight man to man on Mavericks and high error rate by the home team.
Changes by Mavericks moving Muller into the circle and Cadge out to WA with Campbell coming on at WD helped initially to steady the game but again scrappiness came into it and the 7-7 draw reflected this.
Loughborough on the night had the edge and the consistency but for both teams to compete successfully at the end of the season they will all have to raise their game; plenty of matches to go, points up for grabs and all to train and play for.
A great crowd that continued to encourage until the final whistle and a squad that worked tirelessly. Moving onto Brunel and a contrasting game but one that Mavericks will relish and want to move forward on
