Today it was announced the Mavericks Super League franchise has a new sponsor – The Galleria and with the sponsors attending the match it was great that the Mavericks senior squad put on a commanding display of positive business style netball for much of the match.

Gemma and Louisa paired up for the first time this season and the understanding between them and the mid courters improved with some quick passing and penetration to under the post. Amanda Newton and Claire Higham were switching and pairing well and from the turnovers the one two’s involving Siddall and Newton enabled the attack to drive onto the circle edge.

Changes in the second half brought 3 players from the bench – Debbie Jones back after a seven week rehabilitation linked in well with Karen Atkinson and once the shooting circle became settled down and there was less frantic movement Wood and Brownfield produced a solid display of shooting.

McFarlane definitely learnt form last week and tightened up her game to reduce the shooting opportunities. Elsley returned to the court as WD in the last quarter and the final score showed significant improvement however this performance did throw up some real training needs in all 3 areas of the court. The business approach was inconsistent in the 4 quarters and the need to cope with pressure and ensure there is accuracy in the play will be a good starting point in preparing for the Thunder game in Liverpool on Saturday February 9th.
