Set your Sky Plus recorders and reminders, this is one match that every Super League fan has to see...
The match was a keenly awaited one; historically it has always been a close score and this one did not disappoint. Going into the match Loughborough had been the most consistent side this season however for the first half of the match Mavericks just kept ahead but as Maggie Jackson said afterwards "it was not a significant amount and Loughborough made it uncomfortable for them".
Karen Atkinson dominated the circle edge for Mavericks but the work still is on linking the units so the shooters are able to receive the ball more easily. At the defending end of the court Naomi Siddall was dominating the circle and linking with Amanda Newton well made many crucial turnovers that were just not taken advantage of.
Loughborough in the third quarter through tough defending went 5 goals ahead and it was not until the last 5 minutes of the match did Mavericks really let the ball go and suddenly there was a buzz and with one goal separating the sides with 90 seconds to go and Mavericks with possession made 2 unforced errors and a penalty on full time gave the match to Loughborough.
Disappointing but Mavericks will bounce back and work towards the Brunel fixture on Friday – a match to not miss...
