Both teams stepped onto the court and were anticipating the start of the whistle to secure the first goal. It was Mavericks Youth first centre and excellent driving forward and placing of the ball secured them with the first goal. Brilliant restrictive marking from Mavericks Youth and tight defence in the defensive circle saw them sore into the lead. Consistent man to man marking all the way down the court created numerous clean turn overs from the Mavericks Youth. Our attacking players worked hard on getting the ball to the top of the circle and shooters then making some good rotations. Mavericks Youth were in the lead at the end of the first quarter. The score was Mavericks Youth 12 goals and Team South Youth on 7 goals.
Team South made some changes in the second quarter, however Mavericks Youth stuck to their original line up. Maverick’s Youth dominated the court; they pushed Team South out to the sides extremely well forcing many unforced errors by Team South Youth. The defensive players dominated Team South’s attacking circle making concise switches, to produce many turnovers. The attacking players showed strong defending and strong attacking, with the shooters shooting extremely well, at this point Mavericks Youth had increased their lead considerably. At the end of the second quarter the score was Mavericks Youth 31 and Team South Youth on 16 goals.
In the third quarter Mavericks Youth and Team South Youth made many changes to their line up. Mavericks Youth continued to deliver the ball down the court and through the net, increasing their lead significantly and leaving Team South trailing behind. Mavericks Youth pressured every pass made loads of tips and defended all the way through the court. Mavericks Youth had an 18 goal lead at the end of the third quarter. The score was Mavericks Youth 42 goals and Team South Youth 24 goals.
Mavericks Youth had increased their margin of goals extensively, and the spectators were certain of a win. Team South Youth came back fighting in the fourth quarter; they contested and pressured every one of our balls. They executed some brilliant netball, however Mavericks Youth kept their heads held high and kept their cool and continued to fight for a win. The final score was Mavericks Youth 50 goals and Team South Youth 40 goals. The Mavericks Youth Netball team had fought to keep their lead, and had succeeded.
Both teams accomplished a high standard of Netball, with Mavericks Youth achieving their third win of the season. They kept cool when Team South came at them with everything they had and secured another win.
