Mavericks Youth entered the court anticipating a tough high pressure game and Team Bath did not disappoint. Taking a few minutes to settle into the game gave Bath an opportunity to score a couple of goals and take the lead. However Mavericks Youth worked hard to bring the ball through the court with some well timed attacking and were confident to take on the shooting opportunities. The quarter ended 6-9 to Team Bath.
The second quarter saw one change for Mavericks Youth from the starting line up as Sophia Candappa came on to play centre. Tight marking from Mavericks defence enabled the turnovers to be converted to goals with excellent composure under pressure from shooter Zoe Murdoch, aided by high work rate from the attack re-offering around the circle edge. Although Mavericks Youth outscored Bath this quarter they still remained behind with a score of 15-17.
Mavericks Youth saw a few changes in the third quarter with Charlotte South moving to wing attack, Zoe Murdoch to goal attack and Chantelle Hankin taking the court as goal shooter. The quarter saw some great man-to-man defence and pressure on the ball all the way down the court allowing Mavericks Youth to take advantage of Baths missed chances and forced errors. Continuing the high intensity in the attacking third with offers on the circle edge from Charlotte South and Sophia Candappa and some terrific interplay between the shooters meant Mavericks ended the third 28-25 leading entering the final quarter.

The last quarter saw Michaella McFarlane take goal attack position, Adele Burnett at centre, Sophia Candappa dropping back to wing defence and a defensive switch with Abi Ryan moving out to goal defence and Stephanie Collard to goal keeper. Bath came back strong and with some uncontrolled passes from Mavericks Youth the scores were level. The restrictive defence and good switches in the circle were not enough to stop the end to end goals. A tiring Mavericks continued to bring the ball through the court with some good one-twos but some missed chances meant that Bath scored the final goal ending the game 35-36.
Overall it was an exciting game with some skilful play, a great experience for all the girls.
Well done to both teams for a fantastic game!
