Following the warm-up, led by captain Shaunagh Craig, we were all feeling physically and mentally prepared for the game ahead. Starting seven was GK, Loran Allington, GD, Josie Huckle, WD, Marina Mensah-Afoakwah, C, Michaela Austin, WA, Danielle McFarlane, GA, Alice Ewer and GS, Shaunagh Craig. We made a strong start to the 1 st quarter, pulling 3 goals ahead before West Midland Warriors netted. As both teams settled down into the game, the play was end to end, but we took our opportunities and ended up 5 goals ahead at the first break, 12-7. At the beginning of the second quarter, a surge from MY saw us 10 goals up, 17-7. WMW however came back at us. We didn’t have an answer to some strong play from West Midlands, but we managed to stay ahead. The score at half time was 18-17 to Mavericks Youth. At half time we regrouped, and after the coaches had made the changes, we went back out fighting, determined to get back on top of the play. The new players on court settled in quickly and we gradually started pulling away. A solid quarter from Mavericks Youth, left us ahead at 3 quarters time. With everything still to play for, the last quarter was MY’s best. The defence turned over ball after ball and the play flowed well down the court. A massive Thank You has to go to Sam, Maggie, Tracey, Gloria and all of the supporters who came up to Sheffield to cheer us on. A fantastic effort from everyone. |
