Youth Bag Biggest Win!

Mavericks Youth pulled their biggest win of the season out of the bag, triumphing over Team Northumbria 42-20.

The starting 7 of GS-Steffi Burt, who had her debut for Mavericks Youth, GA-Georgia Webber, WA-Danielle McFarlane, C-Sophia Candappa, WD-Marina Mensah-Afoakwah, GD-Loran Wyatt and GK-Josie Huckle got off to a steady start. After losing the toss they quickly gained the upper hand and finished the quarter 8-4.

The only change going into the second quarter was a positional swap with Sophia moving to WA and Danni moving to C. With the team looking to build on their lead, Mavericks stepped up the pace, looking much slicker as they worked as a team to increase the deficit to 10. They went into the half time break 18-8 up.

The coaches made a number of changes for the third quarter, the line up was; GS-Shaunagh Craig, GA-Danielle Stigwood, WA-Danielle McFarlane, C-Kerrie Small, who also had her debut for Mavericks Youth, WD-Jade Cornhill, GD-Rov Allen and GK-Josie Huckle. The players on court quickly settled, proving the depth of our squad, and some slick interplay throughout the court left Mavericks 28-13 up going into the final quarter.

Some centre court changes for the 4 th quarter saw Sophia come back on at WA, and position switch, with Jade moving to centre and Kerrie moving to WD. The fourth quarter was the highest scoring of the game, thanks to some great work by the shooters and Mavericks finished the game out ahead, 42-20.
