This was an important game where Mavericks had the opportunity to take the scalp of the mid season leaders. However the clever recruitment of three over seas players by the northern team in each unit of the court proved to be the vital ingredient for this significant score line. Northumbria dominated in the middle and even the return of Amanda Newton in her first game back since World Championships did not give Mavericks the impetus they needed. The first half was competitive with Michelle hall a new signing for mavericks settling quickly and getting numerous shooting opportunities converting 79% but Mavericks made too many errors for this level of competition and could not capitalise on this and the third quarter was the telling point with Northumbria able to pull away. Holly Nichols and Paula Gant came on in the 4 th quarter and settled well, suddenly there was more width in attack however there were insufficient opportunities and the winning team remains at the top of the table.
It will be an interesting few weeks as the transfer window comes to a close at the end of January to see what changes will be made in the Mavericks Squad.
