Some additional new faces on the court that were very familiar to Bath; Monique Wood and Clare Elsely have made the decision to join Mavericks for the second half of the season. Monique, who has been in the Bath squad this season and Clare, current England centre court is returning from injury and was playing her first Super League game this season.
Mavericks, still had a very shaky start and they found themselves 5-13 down. A change in the shooting circle enabled the team to begin to compete and the gap remained consistent with Mavericks holding their own but needing to claw back some additional goals. Holly Nicols replaced Ann Marie Muller at WA mid way through the 3rd quarter and settled in well making some early feeds into the circle. Clare Elsley was showing no sign of injury and spearheaded the attack. Monique Wood and Michelle Hall found the post when given the ball but on too many occasions they were not given the ball early enough. The first 8 minutes of the 4th quarter went into mavericks attack and the gap closed to 6 but as on many occasion before the fitness and skill level broke down allowing Bath off the hook and able to widen the score line. The squad came away with some positives and with a higher level of consistency, the raising of the basic skills under pressure and team work Mavericks will begin to return to their winning ways.
Next stop Leeds in a fortnight. A win is the only response. |
