The first match of a new season and 8 new faces in the squad of 15 are representing Hertfordshire Mavericks in the 2009/2010 season.

Celtic Dragons were the first opponents to visit the Hatfield Sports Village; and Mavericks began the match with a clinical and business like approach finishing the first quarter at 16-3. The squad drove through the ball through with pace and both Naomi and Naida created turnovers and forced errors that gave Mavericks the opportunity to vary both the pace and the patterns they used on the court. Karen and Rose linked well at the Karen Atkinson, Assistant Player Coach was replaced by a new Mavericks face Laurelle Borck from New Zealand who is currently teaching in London in the 2nd Quarter and Celtic Dragons made several changes too which was a positive move for them as the half time score was 28-14; a disappointing quarter score 11-12 for Mavericks was due to consistent play by Dragons and a combination of errors and looser defensive play.

At half time both coaches made further changes and the game increased in intensity Louisa Brownfield moved to GA and found Vicklyn Joseph; another new Mavericks face and the final shooting quarter score was 16-4. Amanda Newton and Hazel Schofield combined to create interceptions for each other and Naida Hutchinson in the WD position combined with Laurelle Borck to feed the ball into the attack. Going into the 4th quarter Karen Atkinson replaced Rose Morgan Smith and Louisa Brownfield, the new Mavericks Captain for this season was replaced by Monique Wood at GA. Celtic Dragons scored 10 goals and Hertfordshire Mavericks dominated their centre passes and finding the net 18 times.

Hertfordshire Mavericks look forward and welcome Leeds to the second fixture on Monday; a tough game as they come off a win against Loughborough in their first fixture for this season.
