Building Form Against Bath!

Hertfordshire Mavericks travelled to Bath expecting a tough match and they were not disappointed.

Louisa Brownfield; Mavericks captain was prevented from travelling due to a surgery over the weekend and Vicklyn Joseph and Ella Clark did not disappoint her as they moved the ball quickly around top third with the tremendous support of Rose Morgan Smith and Karen Atkinson . The quartet split the strong Bath defence however Team Bath were also hitting the circle and in spite of some strong circle defence the home side finished the first quarter one goal ahead.

The second quarter produced the first change made by Bath with a more mobile combination that Hertfordshire Mavericks knew potentially could do some damage but the strong seven man defence by Hertfordshire Mavericks turned the ball over and forced team bath into errors that were pounced on by mavericks and at half time the score line was a 5 goal margin in Hertfordshire Mavericks favour.

Mavericks continued to stride ahead and although at one point Mavericks went 9 goals ahead Team bath pegged back 3 late goals by forcing passing errors that Hertfordshire Mavericks know they must eliminate if they are to contest this championship. At the 5 goal margin Mavericks surged and some tremendous defensive work by Newton Hutchinson and Buchanan gave a 6 goal lead at the ¾ point.

Mavericks were now rolling and the best performance of the season was on view in this last quarter with all 7 players attacking and defending with intensity that did not allow Team Bath to get back into the game. The final result showed Hertfordshire Mavericks that the confidence is there in the squad and now it is onto Glasgow Wildcats; a team that is also optimistic with their recent performances and then Loughborough on Monday. As Jackson; Hertfordshire Mavericks Head Coach said “it is business as normal on Friday; points and attacking goals are important and we will continue to ensure the squad are working towards playing confidently and appropriately in attack and defence and the next 2 games are crucial in developing this teamwork”
