European Champs Squads Selected

The squads that will be competing in the European Championships this spring have all been selected and are busy preparing for the competition. This weekend, the Talent 1 and 2 squads had their trials in Sheffield and groups of 20 and 30 were reduced to squads of 12 players. Monique Wood, Paula Gant, Abi Ryan, Zoe Murdoch and Sophia Candappa were all successful trailists from Mavericks.

Unsucessful Mavericks Youth trialists include Kelsey Nolan, who has worked really hard this season but did not make the squad. She will go back to national screening in March to see if she can get back into the Talent 1 squad for 2008/9.

England Under 19's
This team will be competing in Belfast, Ireland from 8th - 9th March in the European Under 21 Championships. Even though they are under 19, the competitions are slightly different on certain years due certain reasons and it is thought it is degisned to help teams prepare for the World Youth Championships which are taking part next year. Kendra Slawinski, Mavericks Assistant Coach will be taking this squad for teh second consecutive year into their competition phase.

Unsucessful Mavericks Youth trialists include Chantelle Hankin, Amy Fennelly, Michaella McFarlane (returning from injury) and Abi Lambden (now withdrawn from Mavericks Youth). Amy, Michaella and Abi will be eligable to go back through screening in March but Chantelle is too old for the Talent 2 squad next year. Other Mavericks Youth players that are being recommended for National Screening in March are: Josie Huckle, Charlotte South, Stephanie Collard, Shana Potgeiter & Katherine Thornton.

Well done to all the athletes who have challenged for these squads. The new England selection process will be starting soon for 2008/9!
