Returning Mavericks
The big names are still a part of the Mavericks this season as Karen Atkinson and Louisa Brownfield stay with our franchise. These two have been a consistent ingredient in the success of the squad over the last couple of seasons. Michelle Hall, Gemma Wiseman, Claire Higham and Chrissy Fitzgerald are also familiar faces that have the Mavericks background and have shown that they possess the skills to move forward with this talented squad.
New Faces
We are very pleased to see two young players step up to the challenge of being part of a senior team as Ella Clark appears in her first Super League side. Ella is an England U21 and played in the England U17 last season. Michaella McFarlane is also an England U21 and has made the transition from Mavericks Youth to seniors this year which is fantastic to see.
There is no doubt that the biggest gossip of this season for Mavericks is the move of a whole host of talented players from the Hurricanes ranks across to the local rivals! Naida Hutchinson (England), Chioma Ezeogu (England), Steff Bello and Camilla Buccanan have all taken the plunge and moved to our franchise. Along with Natalie Seaton who has played for Team Bath in the past, this is a very experienced and dedicated group of players. The fresh face of Adele Modeste who has not gained a huge amount of NSL court time is also an exciting prospect. Lastly, a returning netballer is Hazel Schofield, although she has been out of the game for a few years, she has shown that playing netball is like riding a bike... you never forget.
Training Group
Four
players have been invited to train with the Mavericks squad. Sophia Candappa and Abi Lamden who are now part of the Mavericks Youth squad have been asked to train with the group until the England players return from their tour. Dani Dornan and Kerry Walsh have been asked to be a part of the training group which is a great opportunity, well done.
Maggie Jackson, the new Director of Coaching and Kendra Slawinski are looking forwards to the season. “We have included a blend of athletes with experience as well as young potential. We are enthused and excited to be working with such calibre players, who have a work ethic, creative skill and the desire to win" This is a very exciting line up... bring on 2008/9!
