A wonderful setting for the Goalden Globes; my husband David and I were actually out together at the same place…..he particularly loved the Gayden Car Museum; amazing cars that you could only dream about…… and it was lovely to catch up with lots of netballers from my East Essex days and more recently the Bedfordshire crew! It was great to be nominated for an award and seeing the competition from the other regions it was going to be a tough one to win.
Whilst sipping my wine Amanda Newton appeared with her mother; how super to see the former England Captain and of course my outstanding Mavericks defender too at this event! I always think it is a shame that these occasions always clash with England training weekends and they are not able to enjoy it too.
Well onto the awards; I enjoyed sitting on a table with the Hertfordshire crew that included Charlotte Rose the nominate Young Volunteers from the East Region; Amanda was sitting with us too and there was a lot of fun and laughter. It was tremendous to see and hear the amount that people do particularly within their clubs and schools; some amazing hardworking people.
Being awarded Coach of the Year was a real surprise and of course Amanda was there to present it…..she had managed to keep a secret!! Great to win an award for a hobby that I love to volunteer for!
However the best secret was about to happen Amanda was put into the Hall of Fame; 100 caps is a great achievement for an International and it was super to see Amanda recognised for this. I know that Amanda will be putting back her enthusiasm and experience into netball for years to come - WELL DONE Amanda!
