Becoming a Maverick!
20th November 2008

Well, I can’t believe it I am looking at my new black, white and purple kit and thinking about the first pre-match team chant: GO MAVERICKS! Having been a dedicated member of the Hurricanes squad for 6 years in total (Supercup and Superleague), coming to the rivals has been a big step. But, as they say a big change is as good as a holiday…so bring on the sun, sea and sangria!

So I got through trials, the first few weeks of training and now a few matches and it’s starting to come together. The team consists of a lovely
bunch of girls, the natives are much friendlier than I expected ; ) and it helps
having some fellow Hurricanes here too! I did have the whole ‘new girl at school’ feel at the beginning (despite being 28) but there was absolutely no need to be worried. We have a real mix of players this year, old school Mavericks and some fresh faces and they have all been fantastic. We already are getting that team camaraderie and that showed big style on our looooong bus journey to and from Manchester with our tireless ‘coach games’, you know the ones: you have to think of a famous person beginning with that letter as fast as you can….. Well 5 hours of that there and back and general chit chat and you can get to know people pretty well!

The Mavericks Support Team are an impressive bunch, the dedication to the club is commendable and not only that, entire families are roped in too! And finally, the coaches! Well what can I say, both Kendra and Maggie
“your reputations preceded you” and having not 1 but 2 defence coaches on my case is only going to improve my game at WD, either that or make me want to take up shooting! ; )

Joking aside, training is tough, as it should be and this year my goal is to be the best WD I can be and to WIN SUPERLEAGUE!
