Mavericks Get Ready for Christmas... Early!
14th December 2008
Having won a match against Team Northumbria on the Saturday several players and support personnel plus their families on the following day put on a different kit that had arrived in exciting parcels during the previous week - the colour was red! 12 Santas were on the move!!
This was in aid of the The Pasque Charity “Santa Run” The Pasque Charity provides free specialist care for people, young and old, diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. Providing the level of care needs annual costs around £5 million. Each Maverick player took on the responsibility of raising their funds to donate towards this charity.
Unfortunately several players had a Premier Club game but the remainder of the Mavericks group met in Luton at Wardown Park and each Santa had to run the 5 km course.
The players involved were: Stef Bello, Camilla Buchanan, Hazel Schofield, Naida Hutchinson and Karen Atkinson. The Support Personnel included Gloria and Jim Keech and their daughter Emma, Kendra and her 10 year old son Ben Slawinski and Maggie and her two children Kari (17) and Tom (15) Jackson.
Leading from the front was Tom who came 4 th (not that it was competitive!!) followed closely by Ben, Stef, Hazel and Naida. Soon appearing at the finish line was Jim, Kari and Kendra. Then came Karen and Maggie who were discussing tactics and strategies for the next match! and not far behind was Gloria. A great morning and thoroughly enjoyed by us all with a good amount of money raised by Mavericks.
This can all be seen in the TV feature before Mavericks play Bath in the week leading up to Christmas.
