MY Trials!

Mavericks Youth Squad Announced!

During the last three months screening in each of the East Region Counties has been taking place and on July 12th, more than 70 young players arrived at the University of Hertfordshire’s Sports Village to be selected into the East Region Academy or go through to the maverick Youth Trials. Thanks to Jo Munnion and Chris Laundy’s hard work the day went smoothly. Maggie Jackson attended the day in a dual role: spoke to the parents and fielded questions about process and the expectations required by their talented youngsters and then supported some coaches who were gaining more selection experience.

Chris Laundy (Regional Head Scout), Jo Munnion (Regional Talent Coach), Sue Collins (Regional Talent Coach), Sam Bird (Mavericks Youth Head Coach), Helen Stepney (CTO Cambridgeshire) and Alison Brightman (CTI Bedfordshire) selected and this was a tough day as the standard is rising each year. A group of players have been given feedback so they can continue to make progress in their club and school. A further group have been selected into the East Region Academy and another group had the opportunity to go through to the Maverick Youth Trials. This group then met up on July 18th and linked in with current Under 17 & 19 England Excel players to be put through their paces. The new Assistant Maverick Youth Coaches: Maggie Tetsola and Tracey Pennell delivered and coached the skills. Sam Bird, the new Head Coach of Maverick Youth Squad, Sue Collins (RTC), Jo Munnion (RTC), Chris Laundy (RHS) and Maggie Jackson (Director of Coaching) selected the new squad. It was a great day; those who were not selected will receive feedback and if they live in the East Region will have the opportunity to participate in the Regional Academy.

The following girls are selected to compete in the 2009/2010 National Talent League Season.

Some of these players may be invited to senior Mavericks trials and there are a couple that will be seen at the start of the season so this is a provisional squad list.

New Coaching Team!

Sam Bird, a former Bedfordshire, Essex Met and England player will now be heading up the Mavericks Youth Coaching team. She will be ably assisted by Maggie Tetsola and Tracey Pennell. Both Tracey and Maggie were involved in the Bedford and Middlesex Extension Centres last season. We wish them well with the exciting new squad.
