Mavericks are extremely proud to announce the squads that will compete in the cooperative Netball Superleague and Netball Talent League this coming season. Each squad has returning athletes and some brand new faces - and they are both very exciting!
Attack: International Louisa Brownfield and young Ella Clark (Eng U21) remain in the attacking line up with the return of Monique Wood (Eng U21) from Bath who was part of the championship squad 2007/8 and a new addition to the Mavericks coming from Brunel Hurricanes Vicklyn Joseph. This is a very strong group of shooters that promise to offer variety in combinations and tactics.
Mid-court: England Co-Captain and Mavericks Player Assistant Coach Karen Atkinson starts off this group (not a bad place to begin) with Camilla Buchanan and Stef Bello who featured heavily in last season's campaign. Two new faces moving from the South West are Rose Morgan-Smith and Denika Campbell Lee. We also have two fresh CNSL players, Laurelle Borck and Georgia Schmidt who promise to help the others whip the ball around the mid-court.
Defense: If the rest of the squad has got you excited then you will definitely not be disappointed with the back end where all four feature international careers... from last year's squad we see England's Naida Hutchinson accompanied by Hazel Schofield along with Mavericks Player Assistant Coach Amanda Newton and returning to the court Naomi Stenhouse. Enough to frighten any attacker!
The Mavericks Youth squad for the coming season also promises to be a group to watch. There have been a number of players move up from Regional Academy level and some players have gone off to university or other franchises - so keep your eyes open for our ex-Mavericks Youth as they develop across the country. The current bunch are as follows...
England Excel players Alice Ewer, Shaungh Craig, Loran Wyatt, Marina Mensah-Afoakwah, Sophia Candappa and Danielle McFarlane. Returning MY players Jade Cornhill, Katie Chambers, Lauren Allington, Shana Potgieter, Steffi Burt and Josie Huckle . New faces are Danielle Stigwood, Georgia Webber, Kerrie Small, Mikaela Austin, Millie Cattaneo, Rianna Reid, Rovinj Allen and Simeone Compton. We very much look forward to seeing this talented bunch of young players develop over the season. Keep watching for the future CNSL players as they improve!
Mavericks would like to say thank you to all the players that trialled for both the senior and youth squads, there is no doubt that this season has seen a marked increase in the standard of players and the competition for places was hotter than ever. Best of luck to all players and teams - bring on season 2009/10!
