Wendy Hale Tournament

Mavericks Youth were delighted to take part in the Wendy Hale Memorial Tournament held in Dagenham. Wendy, a New Campbell and ex England Netball player sadly died on the 2nd November 2009. Her family were at the tournament supporting the event.
 
Mavericks players were represented in three of the teams in the youth section (1) Mavericks Youth (2) New Campbell U19 and (3) Star. Due to a large number of Mavericks players being at England training, three regional players were invited to play with the Mavericks youth team. Special thanks goes to Sophie Hankin, Sophie Stainton and Rebecca Hazell all played very well for the team.

The team was made up of: Marina Mensah- Afoakwah (captain); Michaela Austin, Steffi Burt, Simoene Compton, Sophie Hankin, Sophie Stainton and Rebecca Hazell.  Whilst Mavericks Youth did not win the tournament, there were some very strong performances throughout the day. Marina in particular captained the team very well.

Thank you to New Campbell for hosting the tournament, it was very enjoyable and gave me a good chance to see the players in a series of matches. Our thoughts remain with Wendy's family and their sad loss. We understand that the tournament will be held annually and we hope to enter again next year. Congratulations to New Campbell on winning the U19 section.
