Mavericks Youth Runners-Up 09/10!
26th April 2010
Within three days before the match, 4 Mavericks Youth players (3 being defence) encountered injuries, resulting in two on crutches and a cast and the other two heavily strapped) but Head Coach Sam knew she had no bench warmers and was confident that she could but everyone on to court to perform. The girls all worked extremely hard but unfortunately Mavericks Youth did not get to finish the season with a win, with their second defeat, losing the match 44-36 to Team Bath.
A strong performance from the first whistle by Bath meant Mavericks were chasing the whole game and time just ran out. But Mavericks did have something to celebrate about as they saw debutant Rhianna Reid step on court for the first time after a season of injury, and was awarded player of the match after a storming second half in defence.
And as it was a battle for 2 place Mavericks Youth were pleased as they managed to score over half of Team Bath’s goals, meaning they got an extra point, leaving them in the league table one point ahead and finishing 2 nd! Well done girls!

As the final score shows, only losing by eight goals being their biggest defeat, and only losing two games all season the girls were pleased.
Every match has been an exciting one. With periods of inconsistency and some outstanding play there seemed to be a frequent theme, Keeping the games close (winning two of the matches by only by 1 goal). They definitely kept everyone on the edge of their seats!
The girls all worked extremely hard over the season and we have seen huge improvements by many!! The young girls stepped to the old and every position was being fought for. Making the coaches selection much harder! As Captain I would just like to say how much I have enjoyed training and playing with every single one of the players in Mavericks Youth this season. The squads morale was outstanding and everyone supported and pushed each other the whole way.
The hard work is really starting to pay off for 7 of the girls as this season they also represented England at the recent Netball Europe Championships. As well as 6 of the same girls being reselected this season for the England excel Squad. (With two off to Australia in July on tour, we wish them the best of luck!).
I cannot wait for next season. Bring on our next challenge… FINISHING FIRST!

Unfortunately, we do have to say goodbye to 2 of our players, Shana Potgieter and Jade Cornhill. They have both been with the squad for 3 years and have played a huge part of our success this season. They will be truly missed! We wish them all the best for the future!
And finally, Mavericks Youth would not exist without the hard work and dedication of their fantastic coaches, manager and physios. Your contribution this season has been immense and we’ve loved every minute of working with you!
Thank you, Sam, Maggie, Tracey, Emily, Mike and Kathyrn.
And a special thank you to Gloria for all the hours she puts in behind the scene. We could not do it without you!
