BALL GIRLS

Ball Girl in action!Mavericks Ball Girls

“Thank you so much for inviting us along on Saturday we had an amazing time and left feeling inspired!
The teams were fantastic”
Sharon Ivers, Letchworth Ladies Netball Club

Mavericks would like to thank the huge number of teams that contact us about being ball girls at home matches. We have a procedure which has developed through our links with Netball East, so if you would like to become Mavericks Match Ball Girls then read on...

How does our team get to be ball girls?

Netball East send out an invitation letter to all CAPS accreditted clubs across the region via the Netball East Regional Office before the start of the season. The invitation includes asking young players to be Ball Girls and senior players and/or coaches to be Stewards. Barbara Moran is in charge of this process as the Ball Girls & Stewards Co-ordinator and she meets and greets the volunteering clubs on the day and makes sure that they know what they are doing. Netball East and Mavericks try to clubs from as many counties as possible.

What does being Ball Girls and Stewards include?

Full details are supplied at the match but this gives you a few ideas of what these people get up to. Ball girls have to monitor the sides of the court in match play and collect stray balls. They may be asked to wipe the court if there is any liquid. Usually they rotate positions at breaks and will only be on duty for one match as it is quite tiring to concentrate and sit still looking pretty in their kit on the edge of the court.
Stewards have to keep overall responsibility for their players and will arrange transport and kit for their club. We encourage teams to wear their match kit. During the day they help supporters to know where they should go, being on duty in a range of places to ensure that the day runs smoothly. They do not get to sit and watch the match but will probably see the action from their work station.
