Frankie Wells Ruled Out of Remainder Of Season; Paige McCalla Welcomed to VNSL Squad

8th June 2018

BenecosMavericks is disappointed to announce that Frankie Wells has had to withdraw from the remainder of the 2018 VNSL season. During the recent Celtic Dragons game, Frankie tore her anterior tibiotalar and strained her plantarfascia. We wish Frankie all the best in her recovery which we will support her through.  Frankie has been replaced in the VNSL squad by our U21 Captain and VNSL training partner Paige McCalla.

Ratnapala said “I’m absolutely gutted for Frankie, she has been working so hard in training and was starting to see the rewards so to suffer an injury at this time is really unlucky for her. We are fully behind her return to play and wish her a very speedy recovery”.

She continued: “Paige has been training with the VNSL squad all season and has grown from strength to strength.  Paige has been developing into a real force in the attacking end and I’m excited to now have her as part of our playing squad”.

Frankie had this to say: "I am absolutely gutted to have injured my foot at this very important stage of the league. I had been pushing myself in all aspects and was personally seeing improvements in myself, however I’m a great believer in the phrase 'everything happens for a reason'.

"I have accepted this injury for what it is and have turned the typical outlook of an injury from a negative happening to a positive opponent. This is a challenge I’m meant to go through and will come back fitter, stronger, happier and even more determined as sitting in the crowd watching my team mates play was simply not an option. I am so grateful for the support I am constantly recieving from everyone at benecosMavericks and know this recovery journey will be the easiest with my Mavericks family at my side.

"This is a great opportunity for Paige and I wish her all the best."

"I will still be there for my Mavericks team mates at every phase throughout this final section. Listen out for my voice, I’m sure you’ll hear it!"

McCalla was part of the U19 Netball Europe Gold Medal squad last year and has been selected for the U19 England tour to Australia in the Summer.  She had this to add: “I'm really sad to see Frankie have to end the season early due to her injury as she was a pleasure to train with, but I am excited for this new opportunity and can’t wait to finish the season alongside these amazing players”
