Welcome to the Ultimate Netball Club

16th March 2020

It was an honour to have four Saracens Mavericks pathway players at Netball Europe, representing Wales and England on 6th to 8th March in Ebbw Vale, Wales.

We hear from the girls about their experience over the weekend & about representing their countries which for some was their first time:

Bella Baylis, England (Mavericks Under 19/21)

Playing for my country has always been a dream of mine. It was an honour to put on the England dress and I felt extremely proud and happy to do so. I loved every second of the experience; I wish I could do it all over again. My team was huge part of making the experience what it was, we’ve worked extremely hard this year, and it was even better to see the hard work pay off.

Libby Burgess, England (Mavericks U19)

I was very lucky enough to get picked to represent my country for the first time at the Netball Europe Championship which was held in Wales. I was one of 12 girls selected to represent the U17 team. During the time at the tournament we played; Wales, Scotland, Switzerland and Northern Ireland. Each team brought there own supporters which made the occasion more exciting. I was a bit nervous at the start of the tournament but as it went on my nerves eased off. I made some great friends with the girls from the other franchises. As a young team , the support that we gave each other throughout the weekend was immense. Our coaches, team manager and physio were all there supporting us the whole way. It will be a memory that will be close to my heart. I’m so proud to say we won the tournament and received my first cap for my country along with nine others. I am truly honoured to have been selected and play in an England dress. It’s really made me want to work harder to achieve more, as this is only the start of my journey.

Eva Chater, England (Mavericks U19)

Netball Europe 2020 was the best experience of my life! I have been playing netball since I was in year 4, that’s when I first fell in love with the sport. I realised early on that this is what I wanted to do when I was older! I have worked so hard for were I am today and to get the opportunity to have been able to represent my country in the England dress was insane! It was one of the best experiences of my life, the atmosphere was incredible and the sense of achievement and pride was immense.

Our whole England team was a strong unit throughout but when we won all of our games that’s when we really became one because we had all added to the final outcome.

When it came to the ceremony it really kicked in, especially when we sang our national anthem and received our medals, trophy and caps.

I am proud and honoured to have been able to have received this opportunity!

Daisy Porter, Wales (Mavericks U17)

Netball Europe was an amazing experience, I feel like I really developed a lot as a player because I was challenged in my play with the national oppositions testing my decision making under pressure. It allowed me to clearly see the areas in which I need to improve in order to become a better Netball player. Also I had so much fun with my teammates and enjoyed building bonds with them as they are such lovely girls. It will be an experience I will never forget!

Congratulations to England who won the tournament with Wales coming second.

Sachel Grant, Pathway Head Coach said ‘I have immense pride seeing the girls play in the tournament. They gave 100% throughout. We are thankful to all who played their part in the girls journey. They are just at the beginning of their National journey and long may it continue.'

'Congratulations to Bella who in her second Under 17 tournament was vice captain. Congratulations to Eva, Libby and Daisy receiving their first caps and Daisy for receiving a mention for being considered as one of the players of the tournament.'
