All We Want For Easter Is Two Big Wins

Vitality Netball SuperLeague

Rounds 9 and 10 Preview: Hertfordshire Mavericks V Team Northumbria & Loughborough Lightning

Since the crazy week of rounds Six, Seven and Eight, you might have thought its been very quiet on the Mavericks front.  But you couldn’t be more wrong.   Away from Netball there have been many exciting happenings from Birthdays (super shooter Sophie Hankin turned 21 and Head Coach Sam Bird a little older!) to Captain Layla Guscoth passing her final exams and officially becoming Doctor Guscoth.

That’s not to say netball has been forgotten, as we live by the saying ‘hard work pays off.’  Though we’ve had two weeks without a match, there has been no let up in the Mavericks camp.  In fact, its at this point that training has been at its most intense, with every player focusing on the areas we know we need to work on both individually and as a unit.

And so we arrive at Easter weekend and two big fixtures.  Firstly, on Saturday we are at home to Team Northumbria and then on Monday away to Loughborough Lightning.  We are aware that both games will be tough and bring their own challenges.  Whilst Northumbria have lost their last two matches, they had great performances against two strong sides, so they will be looking to capitalise on those gains.  And Lightning have won their last two games and will be keen for the hat trick.  So we go into these games with our eyes wide open, aware of what lies in front of us but confident that we have done the necessary work to convert both of these games into winning results.

Head Coach Sam Bird had this to say: “I have  been pleased with the commitment and effort put in by all the squad over the last couple of weeks since our last game. It will be good to get back on court and put the hard work in training to effect in competition match play. We are looking forward to performing well at home in front of our fantastic Mavericks supporters v Northumbria and then carrying that on to the Loughborough match on Easter Monday.”

Our home match v Team Northumbria is SOLD OUT and we look forward to seeing you all there.  Don’t forget as always to wear purple and bring your loudest voices – your support really does give the team an extra push!  First centre pass is at 4PM and if you can’t attend the game you’ll be able to follow the game via our twitter feed @HertsMavericks.  Our NPL team is also in action from 2PM  - remember if you have tickets it covers both games.
