Following Double Header Mavericks Move Forward To Meet Surrey Storm in Semi Final

26th April 2016

Saturday saw our last home match of the season against Surrey Storm.  Mavericks started the game well, taking Storm by surprise winning the first quarter 14-8.  However, we were unable to maintain the consistency and Storm pulled back.  We went into the halftime with a 29-22 lead.

Storm continued to peg back the score in the 3rd quarter setting up an exciting final quarter with the score set at 39-37 to Mavericks.

In the 4th quarter the score was all level when Sammy Wallace was taken off with an injury.  We failed to adapt quickly enough and Storm edged out a win by 4 with the final score 52-48.

With one day’s rest the team travelled to Manchester to face Thunder on Monday.  It was always going to be a challenge given Thunder had played their previous match a week earlier, however it provided a good opportunity to prepare for the semi-final.

Thunder started well and it took us time to settle in to our stride.  At halftime the score stood at 35-22 to Thunder.  We made a number of defensive changes in the break which had immediate impact with us winning the 3rd quarter by 3 goals – leaving the score going into the 4th Quarter at 49-39 to Thunder.

Fatigue set in during the 4th quarter and Thunder finished the game strongly.  Final score – 64-50 to Thunder.

Sam Bird Head Coach said: "We are very excited about the semi final on Saturday and are looking forward to a fantastic match which will be hotly contested."

We are now focused on taking the win this Saturday in the Semi-Final.  All to play for!
