Mavericks’ Relentless Display Sees Them Back to Winning Ways in Bath

Round 6: Hertfordshire Mavericks V Team Bath

Hertfordshire Mavericks 56 Team Bath 42

With a two day turnaround from our last game it was important for Hertfordshire Mavericks to come to Bath and get back to the winning ways that had defined the season so far.  The mood in the camp was positive pre-match and the players were certainly ready to perform and give their all for Mavericks.

After a shaky start which saw Mavericks slip to a 5 goal deficit (10-5), Mavericks performed consistently better than Bath in through court play and defensive interceptions.  Mavericks then produced a great run of six straight goals without answer to close the quarter leading 11-10.

For Q2, Sophie Hankin came on at GA and made a huge impact on the game with her mobility causing Bath’s defence infinite problems.  Excellent full court defence gave the Mavericks shooters plenty of opportunities to score and they did not disappoint - winning the quarter 18-10.  Half time score – 29-20

Keable and Guscoth tied up the bath shooters even more in the 3rd quarter, restricting them from shooting opportunities.  Mavericks were tasked with being ruthless in our approach to extending the lead against our opponents and we did this in the 3rd quarter winning 15-10 and essentially killing off the game. Score at the end of Q3 – 44-30.

A few tired bodies kept going in the last quarter to produce a breakaway win of 56-42

Head Coach, Sam Bird said, “We were looking for a confident performance and the girls certainly delivered one to be proud of.  They approached the game with a great attitude and demonstrated that we remain one to watch for the season.”

She continued: “Next stop for us is the CopperBox on Saturday for LondonLive.   With Storm producing a fine win in Round 6 as well, we are set up for the perfect match and as always are confident we can come home with the win.”
