NPL Captains & Squad Announced for 2016

5th February 2016

Mavericks Name Beth Dix as Captain;  Laura Morton & Tash Pavelin Vice Captains

Hertfordshire Mavericks are delighted to announce that Beth Dix has been named Captain of the 2015-2016 NPL squad. Beth is a long standing member of the squad originally invited in as a training partner, soon becoming a squad member. Vice Captain’s have also been named as Tash Pavelin and Laura Morton. Today we have also announced our squad for the 2016 NPL season.  They will take to the court for the first match of the NPL season this Saturday at Hertfordshire Sports Village against Loughborough Lightning on Saturday 6th February 4:30PM start.

Captain Beth Dix

Beth brings a wealth of experience, having been a Mavericks Youth squad member for 3 years. Beth started her netball at Cranfield Netball club and very quickly moved on to play in the regional clubs league from a young age with Bedfordshire club Team Beds. She now represents MK Netters in the East RCL. Beth has also enjoyed success in other sports winning a gold at the European's in Dodgeball and recently returning from Australia as a gold medallist and world champion with the U18 England Nets squad.

"I've been watching Mavericks play and been a ball girl for Mavericks since I was about 7 and wanted to play for them ever since,” commented Beth.  “Mavericks was always a massive goal for me so to think that I am now lucky enough to be appointed captain is overwhelming! Last year we managed to come second in the league, so I have very high hopes for the squad this year. We've got some amazing players, everyone brings something unique to the team - so I'm certain that we can bring the squad together to create a team that will see us take 1st position in the league this season"

Co-Vice Captains

Tash Pavelin and Laura Morton will take on the roles of co- vice-captains.  Tash who is a long serving youth player, started her netball in the South Region representing Clan netball club. Laura is a regular starter for Kent Club in London & South East and also a familiar face within the Mavericks Youth line up. Both Tash and Laura are currently playing their netball with their respective clubs in the National Prem League. The pair have both enjoyed European success, representing England at U19's and crowned European Champions in 2015.

Hertfordshire Mavericks Youth Coach Sam Meade said "We feel we have chosen the right players to lead the squad this year. It was a tough decision to make as there were a few players who proved themselves as leaders. Beth is a vocal member of the squad who has high expectations of herself and of others, which naturally drives the intensity in training.  Tash has a physical presence and intensity to her game. She leads by example and offers support in through court attack with composure. Laura is a calming influence in the attacking end. She works hard and often goes unnoticed, doing the hard running in front of the circle but also a huge threat on goal. We are really pleased with the appointments and the way the squad has come together this season"
