Vitality Netball SuperLeague

Round 8 Preview: Hertfordshire Mavericks V Celtic Dragons

Phase one of the SuperLeague is now complete for Hertfordshire Mavericks with us having played every one of our opponents.  And it finished with a BANG thanks to an exciting spectacle at the CopperBox.  London Live is always a huge event and we are delighted that all of the hard work paid off, and we were able to come away victorious.

The 1st phase of the SuperLeague went largely to plan and with 6 wins out of 7 we enter Phase 2 second in the league, only separated from the table toppers by goal difference.  Meeting all of our opponents allowed us to put into practice all of our training and really see what we are up against.  There is still a long way to go in the season but we are feeling strong and we are feeling confident.  Every single member of the team believes this is our year – but they know they need to work for it every single game!

And so we come to Round 8.  Tonight we face Celtic Dragons at our home ground – Herts Sporting Village.  Our first meeting this season was at Super Saturday and we secured a 21 point victory.  Whilst Dragons had a tough start to their season we are well aware that they have been on fine form the past couple of rounds and expect a strong contest.

It has been only 48 hours since we met Surrey Storm at the CopperBox and it would be easy to imagine the team being caught up in the excitement of their first win at the CopperBox.  But that is not the nature of our team. It has been all business as we prepare quickly for this match-up, the analysis has been done, the bodies prepared and they are ready to go out and win this in front of another SOLD OUT crowd at home.

Sam Bird, Head Coach had this to say ahead of tonight’s game: “We are looking forward to another home game this evening. We will be trying to improve on our performance on Saturday and develop our through court play further. The players are focused and ready to face a much improved Dragons side and looking forward to the challenge. “

For those of you that were unable to secure tickets, tonight’s match will be live on Sky Sports 3 – coverage starts at 7.30 and First Centre Pass is at 7.45.  You can also follow the action via out Twitter Feed @hertsmavericks
