Welcome to the ultimate netball Club
Introducing Mavericks Futures Academies

1st July 2017

As part of its commitment to developing talented young netballers, Mavericks will be launching an exciting new network of Futures Academies to a much wider catchment area including the East, London and the Chilterns; with the aim of providing more young girls with the opportunity to fulfil their netball potential.

The network will be based around a Performance Platform based in Hatfield which will provide training and competition opportunities for 45 of the best u19 and u17 netballers and merges the former Regional Academy, Regional Performance Academy and the Mavericks NPL and u17 squads.

Feeding the Performance Platform will be a network of six Futures Academies each catering for up to 20-25 athletes aged 14 to 18 year olds.  These academies will each be led by an experienced Performance Coach and have strong links to the existing County Academies to ensure a fluid and accessible pathway for talented athletes. There will also be local CPD opportunities for County Academy and Club Coaches.

The first 6 Futures Academies will be located in East Essex, East London, North London, Suffolk / Norfolk, Bedford and the Chiltern area and will run in early October through to June.  News of screening opportunities will be shared in due course.

The line up of coaches include -

Sam Brightman - the current Head Coach of the Senior Swiss Squad

Lisa Brown - Regional Academy Coach, Premier Coach & NSL Franchise Coach & Team Manager

Camilla Buchanan - the current Assistant NSL Coach

Helene Buckingham - ex International & current Mavericks u17 Assistant Coach

The Academy programme will be led by a soon to be appointed Pathway Head Coach who will work closely with Kat Ratnapala, Mavericks Director of Netball who says:

“We are entering into a new exciting phase of netball and within Mavericks we have a lot of experienced and knowledgable coaches who are working within the Mavericks Performance Platforms and can provide performance opportunities locally to athletes. It is paramount that we put the athlete first and important that we continue to offer athletes opportunities to access regular training and match play opportunities.  I am delighted to be launching this new programme of Mavericks Futures Academies”
